January 2nd 2011 Epiphany Update

Sunday Mass Readings are here and reflections from a variety of contributors.

It is the Feast of The Epiphany : So I come bearing gifts : take what you want ...
Fr. Richard Rohr had this to say in one of his  daily meditations:
"It is somewhat disconcerting to modern self-made people that they should need "salvation" at all."

This is a previous post of mine done this Advent ( seems ages ago), on The Wise Men.

What the camels thought of it all....according to T.S. Eliot.

"A cold coming we had of it,
Just the worst time of the year
For a journey, and such a long
journey:
The ways deep and the weather
sharp,
The very dead of winter.
And the camels galled,
sore-footed, refractory,
Lying down in the melting snow."

Some other choice articles worth a read are below :

This one again from Franciscan Fr. Richard Rohr

The Monty Python skit where in the life of Brian, the Magi went to the wrong house.  One of my favourites:

Music Greetings from the Christians in the East from Iran, possible home of the Magi, but then again nobody knows for sure; could have been China, or India ; maybe a whole caravan of them, not three.

Pray for them ; they are oppressed and frightened.

Video below by Canadian singer Kate McGarrigle, mother of Loudon Wainwright, who died this year from cancer at the age of 63 ,singing "Wise Men" in one of her last live performances at The Royal Albert Hall, London in Christmas  2009.
