Now that the various " politicos" in the UK are setting out their new manifestos, they tell people how they must be prepared to work longer before they get their pensions. Of course, this won't affect the politicians themselves ........

I wonder just how much the fat cats are laughing all the way to the banks, who are responsible for most of the rot in the first place.

It is now possible to give every man, woman and child on Earth
a standard of living comparable to that of a modern-day billionaire.

This is not an opinion or a hope -- it is an engineeringly demonstrable fact. This can be done using only the already proven technology, and with the already mined, refined, and in-recirculating physical resources.

R. Buckminster Fuller

And this from Oscar Wilde, (‘The Young King’), who in recent days has become popular in the Vatican corridors and is still relevant in 2009.

In war the strong make slaves of the weak, and in peace the rich make slaves of the poor.

We must work to live, and they give us such mean wages that we die.

We toil for them all day long, and they heap up gold in their coffers, and our children fade away before their time, and the faces of those we love become hard and evil.

We tread out the grapes, and another drinks the wine.

We sow the corn, and our own board is empty.

We have chains, though no eyes behold them; and are slaves, though men call us free.
