Fr. Marciel Maciel Degollado

I enjoyed reading this prayer below from Contemplative Catholic Blogsite

It is one that goes well after reading this post over at Concord Pastor which links to a mind boggling article by Jason Berry online at NCR,  on the story of an infamously abusive priest Fr. Marcial Maciel Degollado, founder of the Legionaries of Christ ( now deceased). It is the first of a two part article; Part II is to follow at some point.

It is utterly sickening and very sad to read the article and the comments that follow on from it signify the disgust and frustration with the institutional hierarchical  Church that many people feel at the moment.

The article seems to suggest that Pope Benedict did try as Cardinal Ratzinger to investigate this ghastly priest so this is some balanced reporting at least. Pope John Paul II does not come out of it so well .

FRANCISCAN PRAYER FOR JUSTICE AND PEACE

May God bless you with discomfort…
at easy answers, hard hearts.
half-truths and superficial relationships.
May God bless you so that you may live
from deep within your heart where God’s Spirit dwells.

May God bless you with anger…
at injustice, oppression and exploitation of people.
May God bless you so that you may work for justice, freedom and peace.

May God bless you with enough foolishness to believe
that you can make a difference in this world and in your community,
so that you may courageously try what you don’t think you can do,
but in Jesus Christ you’ll have the strength necessary to do.

May God bless you that you remember we are called
to continue God’s redemptive work of love and healing in God’s place,
in and through God’s name, in God’s Spirit, continually creating and breathing
new life and grace into everything and everyone we touch.
