12th Week of Ordinary Time Gospel Themes

Apart from watching the World Cup game to decide whether England progress to the next stage on Wednesday ................................................................................................................
The Gospel themes to ponder for this coming 12th week of Ordinary time start off on Monday with :

Saint Aloysius Gonzaga, Patron Saint of Young People (1568-1591)
to whom these words are attributed

"I am a piece of twisted iron; I entered religion to get twisted straight."

There are plenty of instructions from Jesus and a whack of healing episodes..........................

Take the beams of wood out of our own eyes
before we seek to take splinters out of the eyes of others

Not to throw our pearls before swine,

Doing to others whatever we would have them do to us.

Finding the entrance and  entering through the narrow gate;

avoiding wide gates and  broad roads that many follow but only lead to destruction,

Being aware of false prophets, who come  in sheep’s clothing,
but underneath are ravenous wolves.

Knowing the right  fruits from the good trees and the wrong fruits from rotten trees

Celebrating the birth of John The Baptist
(Feast on Thursday)

A wild man of strong convictions
great bravery and also humility.
No greater compliment could be paid to John than this from Jesus: “Truly, I say to you, among those born of women there has not arisen anyone greater than John the Baptist.”

The parable of Jesus healing a leper who asked to be healed  but after being instructed not to tell anyone

The parable of the healing of a centurion's paralysed servant and the famous phrase

“Lord, I am not worthy to have you enter under my roof;only say the word and my servant will be healed" that we say before receiving the eucharist.

Jesus touching and healing a fever in the mother-in-law of the disciple Peter who then waited on him

And in the evening more healing people possessed by demons - driving out spirits by a word and more curing of the sick fulfilling what had been said by the prophet Isaiah
