Yesterday the Pope canonised six new saints.
It was a special day for Australian Catholics as
their very first saint is a feisty nun, Mary Mackillop (1842-1909) ,the daughter of 19th century Scots emigrants who is credited with spreading Roman Catholicism across Australia and New Zealand.
Her canonisation has produced amazing scenes in Australia and there is even a musical based on her life.
I must confess (!) I am slightly bemused.
Does the Vatican get the irony that our newest saint was not obedient, had to defy church authority, and has since been more than vindicated in doing so?
This website has all the information on the musical and
click here for an extensive blogsite dedicated to her life and legacy and where there is even a a video of her canonisation.
Here is a link to an interesting article entitled A Feminist's View of Mary Mackillop
Meanwhile this short video gives a quick run down of ALL the six saints.

I love hearing these saint stories. It allows us to become part of one another - to see those places where we are connected to God and to one another! thank you!
