One Minute Wisdom Anthony de Mello

This is a repost from last October which seems particularly relevant in the present times...

"Is there anything I can do to  make myself Enlightened?"

"As  little as you can do to make the sun rise in the morning."

"Then of what use are the spiritual excercises you  prescribe?"

"To  make sure you are not asleep when the sun begins to rise."

The Master sat in rapt attention as the renowned economist  explained his blueprint for development.
"Should growth be the only consideration in an economic theory?"  he asked.
"Yes.  All growth is good in itself." said the economist.
"Isn't that the thinking of the cancer cell?" said the Master.

Said a disappointed visitor, "Why has my stay here yielded no  fruit?"

"Could it be because you lacked the courage to shake the tree?"
said the Master benignly.
