Franciscans and Christmas

A short video that explains how St Francis of Assisi was responsible for the first known recreation of the nativity of Jesus on 1223, three years before his death.

It took place in a cave in Greccio in the valley of Rieti, Italy.

"What St Francis did on the birthday of our lord Jesus Christ near the little town called Greccio in the third year before his glorious death should especially be noted and recalled with reverent memory."
Thomas Celano, "The First Life of St. Francis"

A lovely short video from the Franciscans in Cincinnati, Ohio http://www.sfsministry.org  and Br. Tim Sucher, O.F.M explains why they have recreated a live manger and their understanding of the meaning of Christmas.
