Mark Doty reading his poem "Messiah (Christmas Portions)" where he describes
a community that comes together to sing the traditional song, and it is in the merging of literal, even awkward, voices that he captures the wonder and hope of Christmas.
"Glory shall be revealed"
"Aren't we enlarged
by the scale of what we're able
to desire? Everything,
the choir insists,
might flame;
inside these wrappings
burns another, brighter life,
quickened, now,
by song: hear how
it cascades, in overlapping,
lapidary waves of praise? Still time.
Still time to change."
(The voice is slightly out of synch with the video.. but you can always just listen,, It's well worth your time..)
