In this article from the Telegraph Rutter aged 66, says he isn’t really religious, even if his music might be, but he’s capable of feeling a certain mystical awe .

“I was baptised Church of England, I want to be buried in the Church of England, in a country churchyard and all the rest of it. I’d be lost without it: it’s part of me.

“But even the Church of England has become more fundamentalist. It’s started to get a fanatical gleam in its eye. I get worried about fanaticism and fundamentalism because I don’t think they bring out the best in people.”

I think that the Catholic church has that gleam too sometimes !
