Something Inside So Strong

Who shall separate us from the love of Christ?

Shall tribulation, or distress, or persecution, or famine, or nakedness, or peril, or sword?

Just as it is written, "For Your sake we are being put to death all day long; we were considered as sheep to be slaughtered."

But in all these things we overwhelmingly conquer through Him who loved us.

For I am convinced that neither death, nor life, nor angels, nor principalities, nor things present, nor things to come, nor powers, nor height, nor depth, nor any other created thing, shall be able to separate us from the love of God, which is in Christ Jesus our Lord.

Romans 8:35
 For this reason, I bow my knees before the Father, from whom every family in heaven and on earth derives its name,  that He would grant you, according to the riches of His glory, to be strengthened with power through His Spirit in the inner man;

so that Christ may dwell in your hearts through faith; and that you, being rooted and grounded in love  may be able to comprehend with all the saints what is the breadth and length and height and depth,

and to know the love of Christ which surpasses knowledge, that you may be filled up to all the fullness of God.

Ephesians 3 :14

Something Inside So Strong Labi Siffre

Pride is a sin so I think it is important to recognise that when the song says "You thought that my pride was gone Oh no..." that the source of that pride is not rooted in our own efforts but in God. It is the rest of the line that follows :
" because there is something inside so strong" that is the key to the meaning .

That's why it is meant to be understood in context with the Scripture readings and even the photos.

People often misunderstand the true meaning of humility. It conjures up images of ineffectiveness , or becoming a doormat for others.

Nothing could  be further from the truth. Humility is not thinking less of oneself; it's thinking of oneself less, but also living from the true core inside ourselves, which is our true nature acting with the strength of God that allows us to act  unselfconsciously.

"The something inside so strong " that allows us to look people in the eye and say we are going to do it anyway" comes from a confidence in authenticity and integrity that comes after prayer and discernment but is also a graced gift that ultimately is given from the true source and sustainer of all life, from God our creator.

The Holy Spirit always acts through time to allow people to breathe in that spirit of life- giving freedom which can bring change to unjust structures.

It does not in any way deny our own self worth. Rather, it affirms the dignity and inherent worth of all persons, through the life of GOD made in the image and likeness of God,  so that we can have life in the fullness that Christ intended.

Where ever that God given gift of spirit is distorted, denied, crushed or exploited it has to be spoken out against.

That's what the song is about for me and that's why I'm singing it !

                                                              For all the oppressed !!
