Leadership Conference of Women Religious

Please take the time to read and share this excellent post from Claire Bangasser at her blog A Seat At the Table which deals with the Vatican's Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith findings in its investigation into the Leadership Conference of Women Religious (LCWR), which represents 80% of the 57,000 US nuns.

My earlier post on this today is here but it was mixed in with other news so this important issue merited a separate post.

Extract from Claire's blog post is below

"Many loved figures of the US Catholic Church have spoken in defense of LCWR and of the attacked nuns. Sister Joan Chittister started in the first NCR article. Fr James Martin, SJ tweeted his gratitude for the Catholic sisters and shared the Band of Sisters trailer on Facebook. Catholic bloggers, such as Bilgrimage, The Anchoress, Whispers in the Loggia... Stay tuned: More I am sure is bound to be written in the days and weeks to come.

We can as of now start praying for the sisters who are preparing an answer to the CDF's doctrinal assessment of their organization. You can sign a
petition in their support. You can give them money. You can contact them (Annmarie Sanders, IHM, LCWR Director of Communications).

These sisters have done what so often our hierarchy has failed to do: they have read the signs of the times and given hope to so many who otherwise would have been pushed aside to the margins.

Let us be one with them — one in prayers, in spirit, in heart, and in mind. Let us make sure they do not feel alone, in the cold, abandoned. Let us get around them and help them to the best of our abilities."
