The Pope prepares to appoint two new Doctors of the Church on October 7th.

From 7th - 28th October 2012 around 300 Catholic Bishops from around the world will come together in Rome for the XIII Ordinary General Assembly of the Synod of Bishops, to reflect on the theme of "The New Evangelization for the Transmission of the Christian Faith". A Synod is an international meeting of bishops.

According to Pope Benedict XVI, the Synod is to be a moment to examine the journey that had been made in terms of spreading Gospel in the modern day and to resume with fresh impetus the urgent work still to be done in evangelising today’s world.

Representatives

Two Bishops will represent England and Wales at the Synod:
Bishop Kieran Conry
Arundel and Brighton

Bishop Michael Campbell OSA
Lancaster

Lineamenta: This is a summary document prepared ahead of the Synod. Lineamenta means "outline" in Latin and the Holy See invites each country's Episcopal Conference to submit its response. The lineamenta helps provide the framework for reflection and discussion.

Official Year of Faith website of the Pontifical Council for Promoting the New Evangelization

The Year of Faith begins on 11 October, the fiftieth anniversary of the opening of the Second Vatican Council, and it will end on the Solemnity of Our Lord Jesus Christ, Universal King, on 24 November 2013. It is also the twentieth anniversary of the Catechism of the Catholic Church. During the Year of Faith, Catholics are asked to study and reflect on the documents of Vatican II and the catechism so that they may deepen their knowledge of the faith.
