This is a lovely 14th century Advent carol from Ireland.
(If you think the world is bad now, it wasn't much better back in the 1300's.)

The carol is based on the Angel Gabriel's visit to Mary as recorded in Chapter 1 of St Luke's Gospel, which is also the Gospel we will be following in the New Liturgical Cycle C, which begins this Sunday.
We won't hear this Gospel read at Mass until late in the Third Week of Advent, but I'm posting it now as I won't be online then.
