Update World Youth Day 2013

World Youth Day starts on 23rd July, except it's not one day- it's six !
Pope Francis will arrive in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil on Monday and will be greeted by more than a million young people from various countries.

Look for this logo below on the side bar of my blog
I'll try and add to it as the week progresses.

Click here for a useful and comprehensive one stop site "World Youth Day Central" complete with schedules, live video stream coverage.

Click here for the 148 page booklet in English complete with ALL the liturgies for the various events. Very useful, so we can all join in, even from home.

The book includes the Official WYD Prayer, the message of His Holiness Benedict XVI, message from Archbishop Orani João Tempesta, the WYD 2013 Hymn, the Liturgy of the Hours, Patron Saints of the Day, a guide to Confessions, the Order of the Mass for all the major events, the Stations of the Cross and much more.

Short video of Pope at Varginha

Pope Francis, visited Rio's Cathedral to meet with thousands of Argentinians who travelled to Brazil to take part in World Youth Day. Speaking in Spanish, the Pope encouraged the youth, to live their faith, out in the streets and not just in their parish.
The video commentary is in English

Variety of Social Media Tools for WYD

For people at home there are several tools to keep intimately connected with the World Youth Day pilgrim experience — many in real time.

Social pilgrims can access the official WYD app at the iTunes store. You can also access the Follow the Cross WYD app and follow WYD through an app from Xt3, a Catholic social-media platform.

Canadian Catholic television station Salt & Light also will carry a live-stream feed that can be accessed by computer, tablet or smartphone.

All events can be seen live on Eternal Word Television Network. EWTN will also be streaming events live online. The Register will also be in Rio, so follow along at NCRegister.com and on social media.

The Pontifical Council for Social Communications has also teamed up with Italian daily newspaper Corriere della Sera (Corriere.it) to produce The Rio Daily at Pope2You.net, including daily videos of young pilgrims, photographs and testimonies that will also be publicized through Facebook, Twitter and Pinterest.
The theme of World Youth Day is “Go, Make Disciples of All Nations,” and Catholic dioceses are on Facebook and Twitter to help get engaged in the World Youth Day experience.

Sharing is key to social media :Youth Day Twitter (@WYD_en) and putting hashtags #Rio2013, #WYD, or #JMJ (stands for Jornada Mundial da la Juventud), can make the message more easily shared.
