Duc in Altum

I've been very restless these past few days but this from Thomas Merton reminds me...

"Every moment and every event of  life on earth plants
something in the soul.
For just as the wind carries thousands of winged seeds, so each moment
brings with it germs of spiritual vitality that come to rest imperceptibly in our minds and wills ...."

and this ...

Duc In Altum - Put Out Into The Deep

Go forth on purple swell

Be as unwavering as heavenly streams of light

Take with you only that which is of God

Go forth on purple swell

And when your work is done

Your deeds will tell

Of one that listened

And listened well.

Well, that's the general hope anyways.......

Duc in Altum

Some of the words from the sermon Fr. Philip gave this Sunday at Mass now linger in my mind,
“Duc In Altum” or in English “Put out into the deep.”
The phrase is synonymous to facing challenges or taking risks, facing struggles without fear and doubt. The phrase is taken from a biblical passage found in the book of Luke 5:4.
The passage reads, “When He had stopped speaking, He said to Simon, “Launch out into the deep and let down your nets for a catch.”
The phrase “Duc In Altum” teaches us to take risks at everything we do, even though we may not be sure of the outcome, for we may not know what it may bring until we have done it.

Taking risks may be perilous but how can we achieve our dreams and ideals without conquering our fears, facing challenges and taking action ?

"Put out into the deep and lower your nets"

So that is what I will do.
