Pope's Visit to UK September 16-19 2010.

One of the tasks Pope Benedict will carry out when he visits the UK from 16-19th September  2010 will  be to beatify the 19th Century convert Cardinal John Henry Newman in Birmingham.
The theme of the Pope's visit is " Heart Speaks to Heart."
Cor ad cor loquitur - Cardinal John Henry Newman chose the words as the motto to go on his coat of arms.
The phrase has different levels, which together tell us a lot about Newman, his understanding of what it is to be human, and his vision of a humanity redeemed by Christ.
Newman thought that true communication between us speaks from our heart to the heart of others around us.
He wrote in an Anglican sermon: 'Eloquence and wit, shrewdness and dexterity, these plead a cause well and propagate it quickly, but it dies with them.
It has no root in the hearts of men, and lives not out a generation.'

Truth speaks from the centre of the person, from their heart: 'By a heart awake from the dead, and by affections set on heaven, we can... truly and without figure witness that Christ lives.'
Newman tells us that however we communicate, what we say should come from the heart, the fruits of a moral life lived in communion with Christ.

Christ speaks to us from his own Heart. 'You are the living Flame, and ever burn with love of man' – He is 'the Word, the Light, the Life, the Truth, Wisdom, the Divine Glory.'
So, in the end, it's the Heart of God himself which speaks to us – in prayer, in the Mass, through the Scriptures.
But also through other faithful Christians, and in the teachings of the Church.
The Church has no other heart than the Heart of Christ himself.

This is one of Cardinal Newman's prayers:

May He support us all the day long, till the shadows lengthen and the evening comes and the busy world is hushed and the fever of life is over and our work is done

-— then in His mercy — may He give us a safe lodging and a holy rest and peace at the last.

The Pope is scheduled to visit Glasgow, Edinburgh, Coventry and London.
Susan Boyle is expected to sing during an open-air papal Mass at Bellahouston Park in Glasgow on Sept. 16.
During the four-day trip by Pope Benedict,  he will also address Parliament,  meet the leaders of other Christian traditions, share Evening Prayer with the Archbishop of Canterbury, and lead a prayer vigil.

No doubt the British fashionistas will want to see if  the pope will be wearing his  Nike hat, designer Serengeti sunglasses, Cartier watch and those fetching trademark red leather slippers/loafers for the occasion.

Benedict XVI will celebrate two public masses, meet the Queen and move a 19th century theologian Cardinal John Henry Newman closer to sainthood in a ceremony at Coventry airport.

Non-policing costs amount to £15m, a sum to be met by the state and the Catholic churches of England, Scotland and Wales.
The pope's 4 day trip starting on 16th September will  take in Edinburgh, Glasgow, Coventry and London.

He will follow in the footsteps of his predecessor John Paul II, who visited the country on a pastoral trip in 1982, by celebrating mass in Bellahouston Park, Glasgow.

And what about Gorgeous George Ganswein (Papal private secretary with the film star looks ??). Thou shalt not drool.
